3×3 Basketball Introduced to Huntingdonshire Primary Schools

On Tuesday 23rd January the Hunts School Sports Partnership ran it’s first ever 3×3 basketball competition for children in Year 5 and 6 from Huntingdonshire primary schools.

Taking inspiration from 3×3 Basketball’s inclusion at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham where Team England won gold and silver medals. This version of the game is played on a half court, shooting towards one hoop, with short matches. It is a fast paced game that guarantees more touches of the ball and more chances to score. With smaller numbers, less space and fewer rules to worry about, 3×3 is suitable for anyone of any age or ability.

Doug Finlayson, HSSP Partnership Manager said, “It was great to welcome 13 teams and 50 children to our first ever 3×3 Basketball event. It is a sport that as an organisation we have wanted to include within our primary school events calendar, and I’m pleased with the uptake for the first competition. It was great to include Year 9 Sports Leaders from Hinchingbrooke School who helped to referee the matches, but more importantly demonstrated a 3×3 match at the beginning of the event to help the players gain further understanding of the rules.”
