The Chicago Bears Outreach Team returned to St Ives for the second year in a row with their exciting Mini Monsters UK Tour.
On Monday 26th June 2023, the Bears Outreach Team organised two camps, one in the morning followed by one in the afternoon for children in Year 5 and 6.
An amazing 320 children from a mix of local primary schools attended the event at One Leisure St Ives Outdoor Centre, where former tight end Kaseem Sincero helped to put on a session focused on healthy eating, physical activity and hydration through fun, non-contact American football drills.
Chicago Bears are one of the most successful teams in the history of American Football and have brought their Mini Monsters Clinics from Chicago to the UK for the very first time in 2022.
The sessions saw children and young people of differing physical abilities and experiences of American Football take part in six NFL drills to learn and experience the sport for themselves. The children and young people gave the session their all, with the encouragement, enthusiasm, and guidance from Kaseem.
Students aged 14 and 16 from Hinchingbrooke School and St Ivo Academy helped run the session under the guidance of the Bears coaches, improving their leadership and communication skills as well as learning more about American football.
Doug Finlayson, Hunts School Sports Partnership Manager said; “It is truly amazing to have the Chicago Bears Mini Monsters programme back for a second year. There was so much excitement across the district after last year’s event and I think that is evident from the number of schools we have here. 20 different schools and a fantastic 320 children! It was lovely to see the children enjoying an introduction to American Football and I hope this will inspire them to continue learning the sport or to be physical active within their school or at home.”
